Step 1. Go to the Windows System tray and right-click on the Avast icon.
Step 2. Click on Avast shields control.
Step 3. Select for how long you want to disable Avast antivirus.
Step 4. To confirm your selection, click the Yes button on the dialog box.
Step 5. If you want to verify if Avast has been disabled, go to the Windows system tray again and you will see that Avast icon has a red “x” mark.
Step 6. You can also check it by opening the main window for Avast. There should be a message that says “All Antivirus shields are off.”
To turn the antivirus again, click the Resolve button.
For Disabling Specific Shields
The previous steps are for quick disabling Avast. Once you did that, you have disabled all the shields and securities of Avast. If you want to disable a specific shield, you can also do that by following the steps below.
Step 1. Open the main window for Avast Antivirus. To open, go to system tray and click the Avast icon. When the window has been displayed, click on the Menu.
Step 2. Under the Menu, click Settings and select Component.
Step 3. On the components, you can stop a specific shield of your choice and how long you want it to be disabled by clicking on the switch assigned to it. There are four shields: File, Behavior, Mail and Web Shield.
Step 4. Again, you need to confirm your selection by clicking the Yes button on the dialog box that will appear on your screen.
Step 5. To make sure that a shield is disabled, see the notification icon on the upper right corner of the Avast interface. There is a message that the shield you have disabled has been turned off.
To turn on a specific shield, click the “Turn on” button.
